We’ll be meeting up at the Asheville Humane Society’s conference room to sketch some of their animals up for adoption. They would love to use photos of our sketches on their social media pages, to help promote their animals. In addition, consider doing some postcard sketches that you could give to the humane society.

• Location: Atami Plum Garden (Atami City, Shizuoka) • Date: Tuesday, January 13th • Time: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM • Meeting Point: Kinomiya Station at 11:00 AM Note regarding the weather: Since this is an outdoor sketching session, the event will be cancelled if the weather forecast on the previous day indicates rain. Atami Plum Garden (????) is one of Japan’s most cherished early-spring destinations, famous for having some of the earliest blooming plum blossoms in the country. Set in a serene valley along the Ichigawa River, the garden spans about 44,000 square meters and features around 469 plum trees across 59–60 varieties, including some over a century old.

Let‘s sketch together at Empyrean Arts, an aerial arts studio in Asheville. They will let us sit in on an open practice session. They teach classes on aerial apparatuses including Silks, Sling, Lyra (aka Aerial Hoop), Trapeze, and Poles. The Empyrean Arts studio front doors are located on the right side (the west side) of the 32 Banks Avenue building. You WILL need to take off your shoes in the studio. Free street parking can be found on Banks Avenue and on some of the surrounding streets. There is a parking garage on 165 Coxe Ave that is a 5-minute walk from the studio. Several gravel pay lots are also available on Banks Avenue that require an app for payment.

There are many fantastic spot for drawing, plenty of comfortable seating areas, both indoors and outdoors, so you can settle in wherever creativity strikes. The mall is full of interesting shops, cafés, and lively corners that make great subjects for urban sketching. And if you prefer fresh air, the outdoor terrace has lots of open seating with a calm atmosphere perfect for observing people, architecture, and everyday scenes. Where: Shonan Terrace Mall, Tsujido. Venue: Mosaic Mall Kohoku Date & Time: Thursday, January 29, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM Meeting Point:Center Kita Station (Yokohama Municipal Subway – Blue Line / Green Line), ticket gate 10:00 AM Mosaic Mall Kohoku is a unique building with a Ferris wheel on top, making it a very fun place to sketch. The large Ferris wheel rising above the building has a strong presence and makes it enjoyable to think about composition. On bad weather days or cold days, you can take shelter inside the shopping mall.
