About this event
Join the drawing and painting plein air “May Days with Wyspianski” in Gniezno, taking place on 1–3 May 2026.
Did you know that Stanislaw Wyspianski sketched in Gniezno? Yes! This renowned Polish artist—whom you’ve certainly heard of—stopped here and drew, among other things, the interior of Gniezno Cathedral. In May, we’ll follow in his footsteps, rediscovering these places anew. Over three days we’ll sketch on Wzgórze Lecha, inside the cathedral, and at the Muzeum Archidiecezji Gnieznienskiej. Our inspiration will be Wyspianski’s work, with a focus on careful observation and working on location.
Programme includes:
- 3 workshops (including one dedicated to live portrait sketching, inspired by Wyspianski’s interests and the portraits he created in Gniezno)
- sketching inside the cathedral
- sketching at the Archdiocesan Museum
The fee for this part of the programme is PLN 220. The organiser provides all materials needed during the workshops, as well as a beautiful Wyspianski-themed tote bag. (that part is already sold out)
Additional open (free) events:
- a lecture on Wyspianski’s work and his connections to Gniezno, led by Justyna Wojnowska and Dora Pindur (1 May)
- an open sketchwalk in the city centre (1 May)
To wrap things up, the will be a one-day exhibition of works created during the plein air, held on Wzgórze Lecha (3 May).
